No Sulfites Added
At Frey Vineyards, we pride ourselves on being a no sulfites added winery, making only wines that are produced without any chemicals added. A lot of people don’t understand what sulfites are, why they are used in winemaking, and why we would choose not to use them. In this episode of Frey Vines, Molly Frey sat down with Eliza Frey to discuss all things sulfite. We hope that this will shed some light for those of you curious about this synthetic additive and why we are committed to making exclusively no sulfites added wines at Frey.

The Land
The land where your favorite organic and biodynamic grapes are grown is home to a diversity of wildlife. With only about 10% of the Frey home ranch property developed for housing and winery buildings, the vast majority of the landscape remains wild for our wilderness neighbors. In this episode of the Frey Vines podcast, we’ll hear from our neighbor Cathy Monroe about the many indigenous plants and animals on the land. Today’s spotlight is on the land stewardship that is a part of our way of life at Frey Vineyards. Since the 1960s, the Frey family has made a home in Redwood Valley. Located in Mendocino County, in Northern California, the wild landscape above the Tomki Road Winery is filled with redwood groves, oak woodlands, and open meadows near deep woods.

We decided to call it it “Orange Beard” to celebrate the orange that several Frey men have in their beards. We’re really excited about this year’s vintage, our second release of “Orange Beard,” and to celebrate our newest orange wine, we’re hosting a contest. Starting in the month of October, we’re calling for submissions of “orange beards.” You may post as many entries as you like! Regenerative Agriculture & Food.” Frey Vineyards sits at the Heart of Mendocino County in Redwood Valley, tucked into the hills of Northern California. There, the Frey family grows organic grapes in organic vineyards and makes organic wine. Wine Enthusiast awarded Mendocino County the AVA (American Viticultural Area) of the Year award for 2024, in large part due to the sustainable winery practices in this area. Mendocino County is California’s greenest AVA, in large part, thanks to the efforts of the Frey family’s presence here. In addition to championing Organics and Biodynamics in winemaking, the Frey family has purchased tons of grapes over the years from local wineries, thereby encouraging the growers in the area to go Organic or Biodynamic.
