Sip the Difference
Frey offers award-winning, organic whites and reds for your pleasure
Sip the difference 45 years of organic winemaking makes! We’re the first organic winery in the USA, and our wines offer you a chance to enjoy a truly organic experience. Certified organic from the grape to the glass, we believe that you will not only like Frey wines; we believe that you can absolutely sip the difference.
Frey Vineyards
At Frey Vineyards we combine the best of modern and traditional winemaking methods to showcase distinctive varietal flavors. Through minimal manipulation in the cellar, we allow the wines to express the authentic character of our soils and climate. For over four decades, we have been vanguards in crafting wine without adding sulfites, a synthetic preservative added to most other wines (even wines made with organically grown grapes!) that can cause adverse allergic reactions in some people.
Frey Organic Wines
Our organic wines are fermented on non-GMO-certified organic yeast. Frey Vineyards campaigned to make sure that organic yeasts were part of the USDA organic wine certification. At first, when we started making wines, there weren’t readily available organic yeasts in the USA. Part of our process in pioneering organics has been to educate both consumers and the legislative bodies about the need for an organic standard. Our work has been to then make the best organic wine possible for you to enjoy.
Frey wines are all certified Organic, which means that they begin with excellent, organic grapes, and the winemaking methods are also organic. At no point do we add synthetic chemicals or additives. All of our wines are also made with no sulfites added. Some wines on the market are made with organic grapes, but then add sulfites during winemaking; if you don’t see the USDA certified organic label on your wine bottle label, your wine may have chemicals added.
Frey Biodynamic Wines
In addition to our organic offerings, we started making Biodynamic® wine as the first Biodynamic winery in the USA in the 90s. Every since, we have added Biodynamic, estate-grown, no-sulfites added wines to our wine shop. Our Biodynamic portfolio is fermented with only the native yeast occurring naturally on the grape skins. That means that the wild yeasts are what produce these wines. We believe that the Biodynamic wines therefore express a trueness to the terroir to Frey Vineyards that is unparalleled. You can sip the difference!!!

Award-Winning Wines
Some of our current favorites are our Frey Biodynamic 2021 Syrah, with 93 points & a “Best Buy” distinction from Wine Enthusiast magazine. It was awarded Gold at the Sunset Magazine International Wine Competition and Double Gold at the 2024 San Francisco Chronicle International Wine Competition! For whites, our Frey Organic 2022 Sun and Rain Chardonnay brought in 90 points and another “Best Buy” distinction, and our Biodynamic Chateau Frey Pinto Gris earned 92 points from Wine Enthusiast. Our awards deck brims with 90+ points varietals, gold medals, and winning wines! Additionally, Wine Enthusiast declared Mendocino County the AVA of the year this past year, distinguishing our area for its great wines and commitment to organic wines!
Distinctive Offerings
This year, we are offering three new wines to our portfolio. Our first-ever orange wine vintage, “Orange Beard,” provides a unique and fabulous new addition to our white, red, and rosé lines. We’ve been experimenting with adding bubbles to our award-winning Chardonnay, and our “Fizzy Chard” brings this delicious white with a delightful effervescence that we can’t wait for you to try! And finally, the conditions were just right for a Late Harvest Zinfandel dessert wine, which we recommend to finish the day with a sweet toast!
Frey Vineyards
We cultivate over 300 acres of Organic and Biodynamic grapes, and we’re growing. Our organic holdings are 14% of Mendocino County’s total organic acreage. Our organic winery, as the first organic winery in the country, has influenced growers and wineries alike to go Organic or Biodynamic! The next time you open up a bottle of Frey wine, sip the difference that award-winning, organic, no-sulfites-added, vegan, and gluten-free wine makes!
