Solstice Organic Mulled Wine

We love this Solstice Organic Mulled Wine recipe using the Frey Organic Merlot as the base! In our neighborhood, we have a tradition of getting together on the solstice to sing seasonal carols. Throughout the evening friends and family enjoy a dessert potluck amidst a hearty bonfire and the sounds of everyone laughing, singing, and sipping warm beverages. Every year, one of us prepares a mulled wine to accompany our festivities, warming us from the inside out.

The Recipe

To make a small batch of the Solstice Organic Mulled Wine recipe, follow the instructions below. Or, for a larger group, the recipe can be doubled or tripled to suit your needs! We tend to make a large brew for our solstice gathering.

Ingredients

4 Organic Apples

2 Organic Sweet Citrus Fruits (mandarin, clementine, orange, or tangerine)

1 bottle Frey Organic Merlot

10 Organic Cloves

1 Organic Cinnamon Stick

1 Organic Cardamom Pod

1.5 cups Organic Apple Juice

1 cup Port

Preparation

Add all the ingredients to your cooking pot and heat on low for at least 20 minutes or long enough for the ingredient flavors to start to blend together. Be careful not to heat it to the point of cooking the alcohol. The intention is to warm the flavors lightly so that there are soft notes of each of the spices infused into the wine. The sweetness of the apple juice with the flavorful port added to the spiced wine makes it a very pleasing, warming drink to enjoy on a cold Winter night.

Once the beverage is warmed through, you can enjoy this Solstice Organic Mulled Wine immediately! You can also prepare the beverage ahead for a gathering, and then you can rewarm it on low heat to serve as needed.

Garnish

The Solstice Organic Mulled Wine can be served with a Cinnamon stick in the mug or with an apple or citrus slice on the glass.
