No Sulfites Added

The Way Nature Intended

For over four decades, we have been vanguards in crafting wine without added sulfites.

Sulfites are a synthetic preservative added to most other wines (even wines made with organically grown grapes!) that can cause adverse allergic reactions in some people.

There is no great secret to making wine without sulfites; it has been done for 8,000 years. We take this approach because quality fruit and careful attention during fermentation and aging are the only ingredients needed to make great organic wine. We believe the “NSA” (No Sulfites Added) method creates a delicious wine without chemical contamination.

Naturally occurring sulfites can be present in grapes, wine, and other foods.

Synthetic sulfites in the form of sulfur salts or sulfur dioxide solutions are used in conventional winemaking to protect against oxidation. Under the USDA National Organic Program, sulfites are a synthetic food additive. They are not allowed in organic wine or any other certified organic food products, such as dried fruits, jams, salad dressings, or juices.

In over 40 years of organic winemaking, we have never added sulfites or other synthetic additives to our wines.

Our wines usually range from 0 ppm (parts per million) to 5 ppm naturally occurring sulfites. These levels are minimal compared to an egg, which is shown to contain 6 ppm in independent laboratory testing.
